Announcing Young People’s Ballet Theatre new school structure and curriculum!

Young People’s Ballet Theatre is excited to announce a new school structure and curriculum as we move into the 2014-2015 season. These new developments have been created in order to continue fostering each student’s individual growth as a dancer and artist. As we move toward the future, YPBT will continue to offer the highest quality classical dance training and performance opportunities. In order to better facilitate this education, YPBT will be adopting a new school structure and new program curriculum.

Young Dancers (ages 3 to 7)
An immersive experience that introduces children to dance and prepares them for more detailed instruction. Each class includes classical ballet and tap, and introductions to other dance genres such as jazz and character dance. All dancers share what they have learned through classroom demonstrations and a stage performance at the end of the season.

Training Division (ages 7 to 18)
For dancers desiring rigorous and structured dance training, this program is designed to form a well-rounded dancer with a strong foundation in classical ballet and appreciation for other dance genres. All dancers participate in classroom demonstrations and a year-end stage performance, and may join the YPBT performing company.

Open Division (ages 10 to adult)
For dancers who are looking for additional technical training, or teens and adults seeking fitness and fun. Faculty will assist the student in choosing classes that meet their individual goals. Dancers may choose to participate in studio demonstrations and performances.

A task force made up of YPBT faculty, past and present board members, dance teachers, Michigan certified school teachers, and parents, have met during the summer to develop the new structure for the school. The task force will continue to meet throughout this season to create a curriculum for the school, and detailed syllabi for each class. The faculty has already begun to integrate new material into their classroom plans by meeting and dancing together this summer.

Faculty will be available to answer questions and discuss the new school structure and curriculum at our annual school Open House:
